I really love August. Maybe because it’s one step closer to autumn. The rich fall leaves, crisp air and sweater weather are just a few reasons why this is my favorite time of year! There is an excited expectation and everyone seems to feel it. People come together for family gatherings, sporting events or simply to get outside.
August holds the starting point for new: new season, new sports and for teachers and students, a new semester.
Maybe in life, this season is your August.
Maybe you know the “new” you’re facing.
Maybe you’re working through the “new” right now.
Maybe you’re praying “new” is right around the corner.
I don’t know which is your “new”, however whatever you are facing or will face in the future, hold onto this promise.
“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland,” Isaiah 43:18-19.
Picture a seed. It is below the ground fighting hard to push through the surface. It must break through to grow. Can you see it? Can you see it working and growing? It must have nutrients and water in order for it to be strong and healthy. Does the fact that you cannot see it change that it is there?
God is doing a new thing in your life. You may know what it is, or you may have no idea, but God is preparing two things. He is preparing the new thing and He is preparing you to be who you need to be for the new thing.
I am a big picture person. Details are important and I like them done well, however thinking of all the details that need to be accomplished absolutely overwhelms me. Instead, I like to see the big picture. What does the end result look like? Okay, then work back from there.
“New” holds many unknowns. It can be overwhelming to think of all the details you have to face. But God! God is so good. Look at what He says next. “I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
Take heart, God’s got it! He is working everything out for the good of those who serve Him! (Romans 8:28) The intimidating desert places we see? God’s creating a stream right through it!
Trust Him even when you’re the seed fighting hard to break through the surface. Trust God when you get overwhelmed with the details.
Trust God even when it’s hard.
So when the leaves begin to change, be encouraged! The Creator is writing your story and He holds your “new thing.”
