Stationary or Persevering

Today was a beautiful day. You know those perfect days where the sky is deep blue and the sun’s rays awaken everything it touches? Today was one of those days.

We have berms in our backyard and every year grass overtakes it. It’s a big task, but I was needing to feel like I accomplished something big, but attainable. As I scraped through the rock, some of the grass was extremely stubborn. Truth be told, it had been a few years since this berm had been cleaned out. The roots of the grass had grown strong and were anchored around the roots of an old tree.

I started thinking about sin. It begins as something so small and then, when not addressed, becomes anchored around our hearts and overcomes our lives. However, when sin is addressed quickly, it’s easier to work on removing it from our lives. I shook the rocks out of the roots and kept working.

The next weed had grown through the rock. It was impossible to separate the two. God placed on my heart that this is what happens when we face difficult seasons of life. Challenges arise, but when we fight through them, we are stronger in Him.

Romans 3:3-5 says, “Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;  perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” Whatever season you may be in or whatever rock you may be growing through, stay the path and persevere.

God has abundant blessings in store for you, but first you must be anchored in Him.
